Elderly Caucasian Male

In 2004 Adult Protective Services agencies in each state provided data for research. Thirty-four states kept data on self-neglect. They reported that 174,000 cases of self-neglect were received, representing 31% of the total cases received by APS; this was the highest reported type of abuse.

Forty-six percent of these cases were substantiated for all adults and of this amount 27% of the victims were 60 years of age or older.
